Post 800 Veterinary Explorers
About Us
Post 800 Veterinary Explorers is a group devoted to introducing students to the career path of Veterinary Medicine. Comprised of young men a women from 14 to 20 years old, we are apart of the Boy Scouts of America through exploring, a non-traditional aspect of BSA. Our post is sponsored by the American Heritage Animal Hospital which is based in Snellville, Georgia.
We meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at 7pm to engage in various activities that provide students with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and experience in the veterinary field. In addition, our members are able to gain precious experience by shadowing veterinarians, veterinary techs, and kennel techs at the American Heritage Animal Hospital.
Our Activities
In previous years, we have planned many field trips to animal care facilities such as Bear Hollow Zoo. Additionally, every year we partake in WinterFest, an event in Gaitlinburg where members can demonstrate their skills and meet other explorers in BSA. We give a presentation at the Scout Show every year to educate others about the field of Veterinary Medicine. Many guest speakers are invited to our meetings throughout the year. In the past, we have had professionals from Emory's Yerkes National Primate Center, Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta, American Heritage Animal Hospital, and Morehouse School of Medicine.
